Drugs charity pinpoints used sharps locations in Torquay and Bristol
Our thoughts...
Injection rooms offer a safe space for drug users. In the longer term, it has been shown that this can enable more effective opportunities for the user to accept support and treatment to come off drugs altogether. However, we are some way from this it would seem, so vigilance in areas where needles might be found remains important.
Drugs charity Transform (with a base in Bristol) has recently produced and published maps detailing locations where needles have been found in and around the city – 1100 in just 18 months. Similar maps detailing the finds of over 1000 needles in the Torbay area have once again raised the consideration for safer consumption rooms to be provided, where injecting drug users may go to take drugs, whilst reducing both their own and the community’s risks.
