Discarded sharps reaching critical levels in Glasgow
Our thoughts...
Where injection rooms have been introduced in other countries, the benefits to all in society have been noticeable. However, whilst sharps remain a hazard on our streets it is important that those dealing with them are clear on the safest methods of disposal.
A report from BBC Scotland recently suggests that the number of discarded sharps/needles being found in Glasgow is at its highest levels in a decade.
In 2019, the council was called upon 802 times by residents asking for needles to be removed from public spaces – double the number of requests from just 3 years previously.
Providing safer injection rooms in the city has been under discussion for many years, and it is believed by many that this would reduce the issue significantly.
